Certain types of changes in the body should immediately catch our attention. Experts point out signals that may indicate we have skin cancer.

Cancer Research UK reports that each year, 156,000 people receive a diagnosis of non-melanoma skin cancer. Meanwhile, 17,500 have to confront melanoma. Data also indicate that in 86% of cases, melanoma can be prevented. Experts recommend, among other things, minimizing exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which is risky for our health.

Two symptoms might not seem dangerous at first glance. However, their occurrence should prompt us to see a doctor.

Two warning signs. When you notice them, it's better to see a doctor

Chapped lips

Chapped lips are not unusual, especially in the fall and winter seasons. With regular use of moisturizing lip balm, the problem should disappear. However, if you have dry, chapped lips at different times of the year and the problem persists, be sure to see a doctor.

Oncology nurse Mark Brown emphasized in an interview with the "Daily Express" that if our lips are parched and cracked despite using lip balm and drinking more water, and if they start to bleed, it may suggest a precancerous condition.

Changes in the nail plate

Another worrisome sign can be seen on the nails. Dermatologist Dr. James Grichnik emphasized that some people naturally have pigmented nail bands. However, if the change appears suddenly, and the appearance of one nail is significantly different from the others, consult a specialist.

Moreover, not only color changes should alarm us. Nail plates can look atypical in cases of other conditions besides cancer. Experts also list among the concerning changes noticeable differences in nail surface or splitting of the tips.
