The war in Israel is also taking place on the Internet. As reported by The Jerusalem Post, from September 7, 2023 ET israeli website has not been functioning correctly due to a series of cyber attacks it has fallen victim to. Other Israeli websites have also become unresponsive, which is attributed to DDoS attacks, blamed on hacktivists more or less associated with Hamas.

DDoS attacks involve unnaturally generating increased traffic to a specific server. As a result of such actions, overloads occur, resulting in a slowdown of the website's operation or its complete paralysis. This type of cyber attack has already accompanied armed conflicts in the past. Among others, Ukrainian and Russian websites have fallen under their pressure, especially in the initial phase of the war.

As of October 10, 2023, more than 60 websites have fallen victim to DDoS attacks, and five have been destroyed. This was reported by security researcher, Will Thomas, in a conversation with TechCrunch. The main targets of pro-Palestinian activists were government websites, news services, financial institutions, and telecommunications and energy companies.

Cyberattacks conducted by hacktivists can be irritating, but they are not as harmful as campaigns conducted by groups operating at the national level. So far, this type of activity has not been recorded in Israel. Groups responsible for DDoS attacks have not been identified yet.
