The announcement of the construction of another section of the border wall on the border with Mexico does not mean a change in the administration's policy on this issue - representatives of Joe Biden's administration stated on Thursday. The President himself stated that he still believes that the wall is not effective.

- The money was allocated for the border wall. I tried to persuade them (Congress) to redirect it. They didn't do it. They didn't want to. And in the meantime, I can't legally do anything else but use this money for what it was allocated for - Biden said on Thursday. Asked whether he still believes - as he said during the election campaign - that border walls "don't work," he confirmed his assessment.

Biden's spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre even suggested that building the wall would be a waste of resources.

He explained in this way the notice published in the Federal Register on Thursday about the repeal of 26 federal laws for the construction of the wall in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

In a similar way, this was explained by the head of the Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas - the author of the regulation, who stated in it that the wall is necessary due to the high number of illegal border crossings in this sector, which over the last 12 months amounted to approximately 245 thousand.

On the same day, Mayorkas announced that the United States will resume deportations directly to their country for Venezuelan citizens who have illegally come to the USA. This happened after in September the administration announced that it would grant protected status and the right to work for 400,000 Venezuelans.

The migration crisis at the US southern border is becoming a growing source of frustration in the USA, including among politicians from President Biden's party. The Governor of Illinois, J.B. Pritzker, said on Tuesday that the "lack of intervention and coordination at the border has created an untenable situation" for his state, which is receiving immigrants from Texas. Meanwhile, New York's mayor Eric Adams has himself embarked on a journey to Latin American countries, to discourage their residents from emigrating.
