Volkswagen's American division is calling its ID.4 electric vehicle owners for an unconventional service campaign related to the panoramic roof, or more precisely, its blind.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that the internal sun visor for the panoramic roof in the Volkswagen ID.4 may not be sufficiently fire-resistant.

This implies that the vehicle does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 302. Consequently, the German manufacturer had no choice but to initiate a service campaign.

A total of 23,883 ID.4 owners in the US were instructed to visit their nearest dealerships to have this issue rectified. The solution is rather simple and involves applying a fire retardant to the blind, which does not even need to be disassembled.

The initiation of this campaign doesn't suggest that the blinds in the ID.4 are flammable. It is merely a compliance measure taken to meet the stringent safety standards set in the United States.
