Volkswagen to cease T‑Roc Cabrio production, plant fate unclear
Volkswagen announced that it plans to end production of the T-Roc Cabrio model. The future of the Osnabrück plant, where it is manufactured, remains unknown.
The T-Roc Cabrio is Volkswagen's quirkiest and last convertible. Its production will cease no later than 2027. This decision is part of a broader strategy aimed at simplifying the manufacturer's portfolio.
According to reports, another model will be removed from the lineup in addition to the convertible. The Arteon Shooting Brake will disappear from the market in 2026. Earlier in 2023, the four-door version of the Arteon was withdrawn.
The future of the Osnabrück factory, which produces the T-Roc Cabrio, is uncertain. However, considering the company's cost-cutting and layoff plans, its closure cannot be ruled out. This is especially true since the Porsche Boxster and Cayman, also produced at this plant, are nearing the end of their market lives.
Volkswagen also plans to reduce its workforce in Germany by more than 35,000 employees by the end of the decade. The Wolfsburg plant will be directly affected by these changes, and production of the Golf hatchback and station wagon will be moved to Mexico in 2027.
