Volkswagen announces its first electric station wagon, the ID.7 Tourer
Volkswagen is set to release a station wagon version of the ID.7, an electric vehicle similar to the Passat. The manufacturer recently released photos of the production version, which is still camouflaged.
Currently, the lineup includes a liftback, soon to be joined by a station wagon. This expansion of the ID.7 range by Volkswagen is a notable addition to the electric vehicle market, as station wagons are scarce. The offering from Volkswagen is slated to become Europe's first electric station wagon.
The official photos released by Volkswagen show the vehicle covered in camouflage, so the finer details remain hidden. However, it's apparent the vehicle sports traditional lines meant for excellent aerodynamics. The manufacturer promises an air resistance coefficient of just 0.24.
True to station wagons, the luggage capacity of the ID.7 appears promising. Volkswagen states that the boot of the ID.7 can accommodate 19.2 cubic feet of cargo, but with the back seats folded, this increases to 60.5 cubic feet.
Details about the vehicle's drive have been kept minimal, but this is to be expected. The specifications should mirror those of the liftback, meaning a maximum output of 286 horsepower and a battery capacity of up to 86 kWh.
We expect more details to be unveiled during the official premiere, and the first units are projected to hit showrooms next year.
