Vladimir Putin during the interview with Tucker Carlson: It is possible that Evan Gershkovich is going to be released

The Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich has been famously detained in Russia in March of 2023. In the interview with Tucker Carlson, Russian president hints at the possibility of prisoner exchange.

Vladimir Putin has said that talks are indeed taking place and an agreement could be reached. He hints that he is willing to exchange The Wall Street Journal reporter for the FSB agent Vadim Krasikov, who famously murdered an officer of the Georgian and Chechen army in 2019. The assassination took place in Berlin, and the agent was detained by the German government.

The arrest of Evan Gershkovich

The Wall Street Journal reporter was captured in Yekaterinburg on 29 March 2023. He was working on the reportage about The Wagner Group (a Russian government-supported paramilitary organization taking part in the Ukrainian War).

The arrest caused an international outrage among all the Western nations. Evan Gershkovich was instantly acclaimed as a hero and was included in Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World list.
