Virtual Reality is a new frontier in learning and skill development

Virtual Reality (VR) has significantly evolved beyond its roots in computer gaming. Today, VR proves to have immense educational value and has implications in numerous realms. So, how can we utilize VR and AR technologies for learning and fun?

Understanding VR

VR technology creates the impression that we have transcended into a different reality. By donning a special device, much like goggles, we are transported to a virtual environment. Additionally, special controllers or gloves enable interaction and movement within this virtual world.

However, this innovative technology isn’t limited to visuals. VR also delivers auditory sensations, enhancing the overall immersion and realism. Additionally, the technology can create a semblance of touching virtual objects.

Taking learning to another level with VR glasses

VR glasses allow us to virtually relocate to virtually any location imaginable. We can traverse to another planet, pilot a spacecraft, or even navigate a tumultuous river. The immersive nature of VR ensures that we are more than just passive observers.

These glasses work by fooling our perception of reality, making the user feel like they are a character within this new environment.

Applications of VR glasses

While in the virtual world, you can experience full immersion, leading to a phenomenon analogous to motion sickness. However, continuous advancements in VR glasses enhance the quality and intensity of the virtual experiences.

Infusing education with VR

The potential offered by VR is vast. Besides entertainment, VR holds great promise as an educational tool. It can transport users to different time periods, enabling a closer study of characteristic elements.

This interactive mode of learning can stimulate students' interest, making the learning experience more engaging than traditional textbook study.

Beyond standard learning: VR learning

VR technology is not merely confined to conventional learning but extends to gaining professional competencies and hard skills. This approach is exemplified by simulators such as those deployed by the EpicVR company, used by students at the University of Banking in Wrocław.

Enhancing soft skills with VR

Furthermore, VR helps in improving soft skills such as empathy and public speaking. VirtualSpeech, for instance, offers public speaking training within a virtual lecture hall.

VR: A tool for therapy in school

VR offers therapeutic benefits. For example, Unicorn VR World provides a therapy environment for children with special needs, such as those on the autism spectrum. By immersing in a virtual game, these children have the chance to interact with a digital unicorn in a safe environment, promoting the development of school and social competencies.
