More than 250 people injured in the 2017 Manchester terrorist attack have filed a collective lawsuit against the British counterintelligence agency MI5, as announced by lawyers for the victims on Sunday. The attack at an Ariana Grande concert claimed the lives of 22 individuals.

This lawsuit stems from the findings of a public investigation concluded in March last year, which revealed that the tragedy could have been averted if MI5 had acted on the intelligence information it had received months prior to the attack. Unfortunately, two pieces of critical information regarding the attacker, Salman Abedi, were mistakenly dismissed as irrelevant to terrorism.

Victims take legal action against British counterintelligence

Over 250 of the 1017 individuals injured in the attack, represented by Hudgell Solicitors, Slater & Gordon, and Broudie Jackson Canter, have initiated a lawsuit against MI5. They submitted their case to a special tribunal dedicated to compensation claims from people alleging victimization due to unlawful actions by public authorities employing secretive investigation methods.

The attack, which occurred on May 22, 2017, in Manchester, stands as the deadliest act of terror in the United Kingdom since 2005. Salman Abedi, a Manchester-born individual with Libyan Islamic radical ties, executed the attack by detonating an explosive device among concertgoers exiting the Manchester Arena.
