Mike Turner, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and a Republican, emphasized in a statement on Thursday that the United States should necessarily consider taking "direct military action" in response to North Korean troops entering Ukraine.
Turner's statement came after it was revealed that Russia has received support from North Korea in the form of thousands of soldiers. This report was covered by the American website The Hill.
Will Americans join the war in Ukraine? A US congressman calls for such actions
On Wednesday, the White House announced that based on Washington's estimates, at least 3,000 North Korean soldiers are participating in training at Russian bases in the Far East. This was previously reported by South Korean intelligence.
In his statement, Turner emphasized that the Biden-Harris administration should clearly declare that the involvement of North Korean troops in the conflict will be considered a red line by the United States. In his view, this would necessitate a firm response.
"If North Korean troops were to invade Ukraine’s sovereign territory, the United States needs to seriously consider taking direct military action against the North Korean troops," Turner noted.
Michael R. Turner is a Congressman from the Republican Party. Since 2003, he has represented Ohio's 3rd congressional district in the United States House of Representatives.
