US‑Ukraine set to finalize rare earth minerals deal
On Monday, Donald Trump, in a conversation with journalists following his cabinet meeting, announced that the United States has reached an agreement with Ukraine regarding a deal on rare earth minerals, according to Reuters.
"U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday he expects a U.S.-Ukraine revenue-sharing agreement on Ukrainian critical minerals will be signed soon," as reported by Reuters and the Kyiv Independent.
During the cabinet meeting, Trump also mentioned to reporters that the United States is discussing with Ukraine the possibility of American companies acquiring Ukrainian power plants.
- "We're talking about territory right now. We're talking about lines of demarcation, Talking about power, power plant ownership. Some people are saying the United States should own the power plant...because we have the expertise," the American leader was quoted by Reuters.
There is an agreement. Trump talks about the imminent signing of documents
Previously, both countries had planned to sign an extraction agreement on minerals on February 28. However, this plan was abandoned after a sharp dispute between Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The American president now assures that he expects an imminent signing of an agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine on sharing revenues from Ukrainian mineral resources.
