What do you need to know?

  • New US tariffs: The United States has imposed a 10 percent tariff on Ukrainian exported goods. This general tariff is lower compared to some other countries, such as Moldova at 31 percent or the European Union at 20 percent.
  • Export value: In 2024, Ukraine exported goods to the US worth 874 million dollars, including 363 million dollars in iron exports and 112 million dollars in pipes.
  • Possibility of negotiations: Ukraine has the opportunity to negotiate better trade terms with the US, which could help reduce the impact of the new tariffs on small producers.

What are the details of the new US tariffs on Ukraine?

Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, stated that the new tariffs on Ukrainian exported goods to the US stand at 10 percent. Svyrydenko described the situation as "difficult, but not critical."

She noted that Ukrainian tariffs, when compared to those set by Donald Trump for other countries, are relatively low. "There is no separate higher tariff, such as the 31 percent in Moldova or the 20 percent in the EU, for Ukraine," wrote Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister.

What goods are covered by the tariffs?

In 2024, Ukraine exported goods to the US valued at 874 million dollars. The largest portions consisted of iron and pipes. Svyrydenko emphasized that Ukraine exports over 600 different categories of goods to the US, including items as varied as wrench keys. Sixty-five types of exported products exceed a value of 1 million dollars each.

Does Ukraine have a chance for better conditions?

Svyrydenko noted that Ukrainian tariffs on American goods are relatively low. This situation provides Ukraine an opportunity to negotiate better trade terms.

"The American statement clearly indicates such a possibility. If everything remains unchanged, the universal American tariff will primarily affect small producers. Therefore, we are already working to secure better conditions for Ukraine," announced the Deputy Prime Minister.

"Ukraine has much to offer the United States as a reliable ally and partner. Both our countries can benefit from fair tariffs," Svyrydenko added. "The American declaration clearly suggests this possibility," she reiterated.
