US, Russia in Jeddah: Ceasefire talks bring hope for peace
On March 23 in Jeddah, further diplomatic talks between the USA and Russia will take place. The parties are set to discuss the details of a ceasefire in Ukraine, announced the US envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff. The White House emphasizes that an agreement is getting closer, reports Newsweek.
This next round of diplomatic discussions between the United States and Russia is scheduled for March 23 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The information was conveyed by special US envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, in an interview with Fox News. As announced, the US delegation will be led by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The talks will focus on details concerning the ceasefire in Ukraine. "I think it's a relatively short distance to a full ceasefire from there," Witkoff emphasized.
Trump-Putin conversation
On Tuesday, the conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin concluded. According to a White House statement, both leaders agreed that the first step toward peace will be a ceasefire concerning energy and infrastructure.
However, Russia set additional conditions. Moscow stated that "a condition for ending the war should include a 'complete cessation' of foreign military and intelligence assistance to Kyiv," as reported by ABC News. The Kremlin did not accept Trump's proposal for a 30-day total ceasefire, emphasizing the need for further negotiations.
They also agreed that better bilateral relations between the USA and Russia will bring enormous benefits, including large economic deals and geopolitical stability upon reaching peace, reported The Guardian.
