US prepares largest aid package for Ukraine in months

Reuters reported, citing sources within the American administration, that the United States is preparing a substantial military aid package for Ukraine worth $375 million.

The package, which is expected to be announced next week, will include patrol boats, additional ammunition for HIMARS systems, 6-inch and 4-inch artillery ammunition, spare parts, and other types of weapons.

Reuters notes that this is the largest military support package for Kyiv in many months. Since May, Washington has not provided Ukraine with more support than $275 million.

Assistance for Kyiv is being provided under the PDA (Presidential Drawdown Authority) mechanism, which allows the US president to use current weapons stocks to support allies in emergencies.

The agency emphasizes that the scope and amount of assistance may still change before President Joe Biden signs it.
