The crew of a US Navy ship intercepted three cruise missiles and several drones - the Pentagon reports. The missiles were fired by the Houthi movement in Yemen, allied with Iran. They were most likely fired towards Israel.

As reported by Reuters, Washington is currently on high alert due to the activity of groups supported by Iran. It is engaged in escalating tensions between Israel and Hamas.

Americans shot down Yemeni missiles

As reported by the Pentagon, the American destroyer USS Carney shot down Yemeni missiles while patrolling the Red Sea. No one was harmed during the action.

- We can't say with certainty what the rockets and drones were targeting, but they were launched from Yemen, heading north along the Red Sea, potentially towards targets in Israel - Pentagon spokesman, Brigadier General Patrick Ryder told reporters.

In a conversation with Reuters, one of the American officials anonymously conveyed that the launch did not appear to be aimed at a warship.

Last week, the United States directed a significant portion of its Navy to the Middle East.
