US, Egypt, Qatar propose 90‑day plan for Israel-Hamas ceasefire, signaling hope for regional normalization
A 90-day plan could potentially lead to a total ceasefire, reports 'The Times of Israel', citing 'The Wall Street Journal'. The first phase would involve an immediate cessation of hostilities. Hamas would then be expected to release all Israeli civilians, while Israel would release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. This would be followed by the withdrawal of Israel's forces from Gaza's cities and establishing freedom of movement in the region. Moreover, drones would no longer patrol the airspace and humanitarian aid reaching the Gaza Strip would double in amount.

In the next phase, Hamas would be expected to release Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers, as well as the remains of fallen Israelis. In return, Israel would release even more prisoners. The third phase would involve withdrawing additional Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip's border. Meanwhile, the Palestinian group would release soldiers and men of conscription age.
Egyptian officials told 'The Wall Street Journal' that upon the completion of the 90-day plan, talks about a long-term ceasefire and normalization of relations between Israel, Saudi Arabia, and other Arab nations would be anticipated. Subsequently, the process leading to the creation of a Palestinian state would begin.
According to Egyptian officials, Israel is currently avoiding discussions about a permanent ceasefire and is pushing for a two-week ceasefire instead. Negotiations in Cairo are anticipated to commence in the coming days.
