Unusual Finnish feline captures hearts despite vampire-like looks: Meet Toivo, the 'weirdcat'
Some compare him to a vampire, a panther, or a bat, but it's crucial not to judge him by first appearances. His owner, Finnish illustrator Tuomas Ikonen, affirms, "He wouldn't hurt a fly." Tuomas adds that his pet is very gentle and friendly to humans and animals alike. Despite posting pictures of Toivo with the hashtag #weirdcat, Tuomas insists that Toivo is only peculiar in appearance; underneath, he's a kind, sociable kitten.
A Feline Addams Family?
Toivo shares his home with an intriguing batch of siblings. His midnight black fur might make him the most intimidating, but his siblings, too, hold an allure of their own. There's Hannu and Marsel, whom Tuomas fondly compares to a squirrel and a rabbit, respectively. Their triangular heads, long slender bodies, and large protruding ears make them impossible to overlook.
Resembles a Bat but Acts More like a Dog
Toivo and his fellow felines are Oriental Shorthairs, a breed known for its dog-like behavior, with one of their favorite games oddly being 'fetch.' Despite not being a highly popular breed, cats with this distinct appearance are gaining an increasing number of admirers.
Toivo himself has already graced the covers of international magazines. While we may never know if he ever dreamed of such fame, it is clear that he is content with his current life, happily purring in his owner's ear each morning.
"He wants to be involved in everything: he follows me everywhere, always watches attentively, and comfortably sleeps in our bed. The moment anyone sits on the couch, at least one of our cats instantly claims a spot on their lap," Tuomas describes his bond with his pets.
