The unexpected guest, who speaks Spanish, slept in the royal bed and was discovered by the staff in the morning. According to the "Het Nieuwsblad" newspaper, she seemed completely disoriented.

There is no indication that this was a deliberate attempt to secure accommodations. It's conceivable that the woman simply got lost and inadvertently played the role of an intruder in the royal residence.

An investigation into this peculiar situation is currently underway. Upon finding the unfortunate intruder, the staff called the police. "The investigators have initiated proceedings to forcibly commit the woman to a psychiatric hospital," said a spokeswoman for the Brussels prosecutor's office.

While it is believed that the woman had no malicious intent, the prosecutor's office is investigating how she was able to evade palace security. The police will examine if a security breach occurred.

Unexplained intrusion at the Royal Palace in Brussels

The prosecutor's office stated it is "currently investigating how the woman gained entry". Surveillance footage inside and outside the building is being scrutinized for this purpose.

The Royal Palace in Brussels is the official residence of King Philip. However, his actual residence is at Laeken Castle. The palace near Warande park serves as housing for foreign delegations and palace staff.
