A refrigerator is one of the most essential appliances in the home. It cools products, keeps them fresh, and allows for extended storage. It's hard to imagine normal functioning without it. However, few people notice the small inside hole, usually on the back wall. It serves an essential function and requires regular cleaning. What hole are we talking about?
Found in every fridge. Few people know what it's for
A refrigerator is a complex device composed of five essential parts: the compressor, evaporator, condenser, thermostat, and capillary tube. These parts are located at the back of the appliance and are enclosed. You will only see them after disassembling the fridge.
When you open the refrigerator door, you'll see shelves, compartments, and a small hole in the back wall. Manufacturers often place it above the drawer intended for storing vegetables and fruits.
This is a drain hole that allows for the free flow of water. Thanks to it, water does not settle on the food or freeze on the wall. It protects the interior of the fridge, preventing premature food spoilage. The hole should have constant access to air. Food will not function properly if covered by food, negatively affecting the refrigerator's operation.
Mix with water and spray. This will get rid of unpleasant odors
Unpleasant smells from the fridge are a problem that occurs in many homes. This results from various factors, such as improper food storage or lack of regular cleaning. It turns out that a contaminated hole can contribute to the formation of a foul odor. How do you clean it? It's straightforward. You only need two ingredients—baking soda and vinegar, for example, white vinegar or citric acid.
Start by unplugging the fridge and removing all food products from it. When the appliance reaches room temperature, thoroughly wash the refrigerator with vinegar or citric acid water. After thoroughly cleaning the fridge, focus on the hole. Put gloves on your hands and remove any debris from it.
Boil 1 quart of water and add 1/3 cup vinegar and baking soda. The solution will start to fizz. This is entirely natural and will subside after a few minutes. Pour the prepared mixture into a large syringe and spray it inside the hole. Finally, dry it off with a paper towel.
