Russia itself has initiated and is conducting war against Ukraine, and cynically intervenes in the situation in Israel. On Friday, it proposed a UN Security Council resolution, in which it calls for a humanitarian ceasefire and condemns violence against civilians and all acts of terrorism.

"The draft resolution also calls for the release of hostages, access to humanitarian aid, and the safe evacuation of the needy civilian population. As reported by diplomats, the text was presented to the 15-member Council during a closed-door meeting on the conflict on Friday," reports Reuters agency.

The agency that received the document draft notes that it refers to Israel and the Palestinians, but does not directly mention Hamas.

- They didn't consult with anyone and didn't even mention Hamas, so they clearly aren't speaking seriously or aren't connected with most of the members of the Council - an anonymous UN Security Council diplomat commented.

In response to the question as to why Russia does not mention Hamas in the resolution, Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya responded, saying the proposal is a humanitarian resolution. He added that Israel has the right to defend their territory, "but Israel's daily bombardment of Gaza is reminiscent of the Siege of Leningrad during World War II". "He also stated that the Israeli plan to relocate over a million people from northern Gaza to the south resembles the creation of a ghetto," reports CNN.

"These comments emerge at a time when Russia is conducting a ruthless military campaign against Ukraine and is the subject of an investigation carried out by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity. Among other things, this issue includes allegations of attacking civilians," highlights CNN.

To be adopted, a Security Council Resolution requires at least nine votes in favor and no veto from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, and Russia.
