In London's Redbridge district, on the site of the former Claybury psychiatric hospital, lies a unique pool.
The hospital operated from 1893 to 1997, and after its closure, the area was transformed into the luxurious Repton Park estate. In the former hospital church, now owned by Virgin Active, there is a 79-foot pool, a sauna, and other amenities.
The pool has retained original architectural features such as stained glass and vaults. One visitor described their impressions on Yelp: "When I entered the pool, I was surprised and enchanted. I felt a bit sacrilegious, but at the same time, I really enjoyed swimming."
Only members of Virgin Active have access to the pool. New members receive two guest invitations, and every year on their birthday, they receive three more. The interior of the fitness club is distinguished by its 16-foot windows and colorful ceiling, which contrasts with typical gyms.
The place attracts stars
Repton Park draws well-known individuals such as Jeremy Clarkson, Lily Allen, and Kate Moss. It is also a popular spot for footballers from Arsenal and Tottenham Spurs. Besides the pool, the club offers fitness classes, Pilates, yoga, and personal training with instructors.
