Ukrainians' hope for EU prosperity wanes amid war concerns
In a study conducted periodically by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, the negative perception of Ukrainians towards the future of their country is increasingly noticeable. There has been a significant decrease in the number of people who believe, for instance, that Ukraine will be a prosperous country belonging to the European Union in 10 years.
In a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology at the end of 2022, 88% of respondents believed that in 10 years, Ukraine would be a prosperous country belonging to the European Union.
As "Rzeczpospolita" now analyzes, the percentage of these people is gradually decreasing. In 2023, it was 73% of respondents, and in the latest survey conducted in December 2024, it was 57%.
The attitudes of Ukrainians are increasingly changing
Respondents were also asked whether they believe that during this timeframe, Ukraine will be struggling with an economy destroyed by warfare. In 2022, only 5% expressed such a concern, and two years later, it is now 28%.
Respondents also shared their opinions on whether Ukraine will gradually overcome adversities and move towards a cohesive society expressing different political views. In this aspect, the number of positive responses fell from December 2023 to December 2024, declining from 69% to 53%.
Meanwhile, the number of people believing that adversities will escalate, and there might be a split among the Ukrainian people, increased from 25% to 33%.
