On April 14th, "The Reckoning Project," a coalition of Ukrainian and international journalists and lawyers dedicated to documenting war crimes, together with the injured Ukrainian man who is now in Buenos Aires, lodged a criminal complaint in the Federal Court of Argentina.
In this legal action, the complainant, referred to as Mr. M. (for security reasons, his full name is withheld), requests that the Federal Court investigates his torture by Russian officials and their associates who directly perpetrated the abuse.
Highlighted by "Ukrainian Truth," the Ukrainian's lawsuit recounts the electric shock torture he suffered during his capture by Russian forces in one of the Ukrainian cities under their control.
Per Reuters, the lawsuit recounts how, during the torture sessions, electrical wires were connected to the man's ear and finger, sending electric currents through his body. The filing states that he, along with others, was confined in cells around 108 square feet, housing 12-20 persons each.
The nature of the lawsuit
Within the lawsuit, the Ukrainian man accuses one individual by full name, two others identified by their nicknames or "call signs," and several unnamed persons of administering electric shocks and engaging in unlawful detention as a means of torture, occurring from mid to late 2022.
"I was detained at work. Then they tortured me. They used electric shocks. It was incredibly painful, so I lost consciousness. I was lucky to survive. Many people are still there." the Ukrainian shared with Reuters.
