The German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, believes the crash of the DHL cargo plane in Vilnius might not have been accidental. She shared this perspective during a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Italy.

"We must seriously question whether it was an accident or a hybrid attack, as happened last week," she emphasized. Baerbock was referring to the cutting of underwater telecommunication cables in the Baltic Sea, which Berlin classified as sabotage.

The plane, which departed from Leipzig and was chartered by DHL, crashed near a residential building in Vilnius. One of the four people on board was killed in the crash, and the others sustained injuries.

Growing threat

In recent months, there has been an increase in incidents related to Russian hybrid attacks in Europe. German security services have warned about "unconventional incendiary devices" being sent by unknown individuals through transport companies like DHL. Consequently, German counterintelligence and police have warned the aviation and logistics sectors.

The DHL plane crash in Vilnius is part of a broader context of the increasing threat of hybrid attacks in Europe. German authorities are investigating whether this incident is part of a larger strategy to destabilize the region.
