Ukrainian rocket strike hits Russian base in occupied Luhansk
On Monday morning, in the temporarily occupied city of Luhansk by the Russians, the sounds of explosions were heard. Videos emerged on social media showing a column of smoke over the city. According to local Ukrainian authorities, Ukrainian rocket launchers hit a Russian base in the village of Yuvileyne on the outskirts of Luhansk.
Ukrainian armed forces conducted a rocket attack on a Russian military base in the village of Yuvileyne, located on the outskirts of Russian-occupied Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, according to Artem Lysogor, head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration.
"Once again, it was a difficult start to the week for the occupiers in Luhansk. (...) On local (internet) chats, Luhansk residents confirm that at the 'hit' site, there was a (Russian) military town (established) among civilian objects. Until 2014 (before Luhansk was taken over by pro-Russian so-called separatists - PAP), there was an Academy of Internal Affairs, which the Russians later took over," Lysogor stated on Telegram.
The head of the regional administration added: "'Honor of a Russian officer' is to hide behind the backs of our compatriots and among our homes. Generally speaking, it's nothing new. We congratulate our military on a successful hunt and thank our people (from the occupied Luhansk region) for providing the army with the exact coordinates of the Russian base."
Luhansk has been occupied by the Russians since 2014
Parts of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, which have been under Russian occupation since 2014 and are known as the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics, as well as areas of Donbas that were taken by invading forces during the aggression on Ukraine (including the city of Mariupol), were recognized by the Kremlin as part of Russian territory in September 2022.
This decision was preceded by illegal referendums conducted in the conquered areas of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, which sanctioned the annexation of these lands.
Most countries in the world, including all member states of the European Union and NATO, recognized Russia's decision as a violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity and a breach of international law.
