Over recent years, the Russians have honed their skills in various types of hybrid warfare, and they have not hesitated to use "psychological operations" units since their invasion of Ukraine. The mission of these units is to mislead the Armed Forces of Ukraine, sabotage their morale, and instigate surrender.

As it turns out, the efforts of Vladimir Putin's soldiers are not as sophisticated and skillful as they might like to believe. The Ukrainians, particularly their celebrated military intelligence (HUR), actively sought out a unique Russian unit and exposed its actions. This essentially signals defeat and humiliation.

Once again, the Russians failed to live up to the famous phrase about being the "second army of the world".

The special Russian unit was tasked with spreading Kremlin propaganda, not just anywhere but right at the front line, and directly among the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - perhaps even among civilians in occupied territories. The Ukrainians easily unveiled and made a mockery of the covert "psychological operations" unit.

The entire operation was likely directed by the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) under the watchful eyes of General Kyrylo Budanov. They've been indulging in this tactical game of cat and mouse since the war's inception.

The Ukrainians meticulously studied the enemy unit, which operates within the Russian "Dnieper" military group, stationed from Zaporozhye to Donetsk, and the Bachmut region. Individual soldiers, entire units, vehicles, and equipment were all identified along with those featured in the propaganda film. The Russians were thoroughly shamed.

The Russians attempted to circulate leaflets aiming to "urge surrender" from Ukrainian soldiers. This is a strategy as old as warfare itself and was widely used in both World Wars. In making a propaganda film, the Russians intent was to illustrate their influence on enemy minds. As it happens, they made a grave error.

The personnel from the specialized unit are no longer incognito. The Ukrainians know their names, military ranks - many of which belong to officers - and residences. They are aware of their locations, basically everything the Russians would prefer to keep concealed. Now, HUR agents should have no trouble in tracking down and paying a visit to those who chose to participate in the invasion.

It seems that Russian endeavors often backfire. While they aim to diminish the Ukrainians' spirit, they only fuel their resolve to fight and interest to defeat the adversary. After two years of war, the motivation for victory is clearer and the march toward it is determined.
