The incident took place on a railway bridge spanning the Chapayevka river near the city of Chapayevsk, approximately 25 miles from Samara. Reports from Russian media indicate that the explosion was heard around 10:15 PM Eastern Time.
The explosion damaged the bridge's metal structures and its safety railing. However, the concrete foundation of the bridge remained intact.
Train traffic over the bridge has been suspended. Three passenger trains from Moscow and one local train were halted. Emergency services are currently responding at the site.
According to Russian media sources, there have been no reported injuries from the explosion.
Ukrainian intelligence behind the explosion
Shortly after the explosion was reported, Ukrainian military intelligence acknowledged their role in orchestrating the sabotage.
"The rail line was utilized by the aggressor for transporting ammunition, including engineering ordnance produced by the Polimer plant located in Chapayevsk, within the Samara region. Given the extent of the damage to the railway bridge, it will be out of service for an extended period," stated HUR in their communication.
