Ukrainian general warns US is undermining global unity

General Valerii Zaluzhnyi accused the US on Thursday of undermining the world order. The Ukrainian ambassador to the United Kingdom also warned that NATO might cease to exist and that Russia could potentially attack Europe, as reported by the newspaper "The Times".

The Ukrainian ambassador to the United Kingdom and former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, stated in his speech at the Chatham House think tank that "it is not just the axis of evil and Russia trying to revise the world order." The US is finally destroying this order, he said.

"It’s obvious that the White House has questioned the unity of the whole western world," the ambassador assessed, adding "now Washington is trying to delegate the security issues to Europe without participation of the US. So we can say that in the near future, NATO … can stop existing."

Changes in Ukrainian command

General Zaluzhnyi, who previously served as the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, was removed from this position in February 2024 by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He was replaced by General Oleksandr Syrskyi. However, Zaluzhnyi is being considered by some commentators as a potential successor to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
