“To maintain law and order and ensure the urgent needs of the population in the controlled territories, a military commandant's office was created. Major General Moskalev was appointed as its head,” Syrskyi said during a meeting of the state's highest leadership chaired by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The administration will be located in Sudzha, which is occupied by Ukrainian forces.

The commander-in-chief reported that since the beginning of the day, Ukrainian forces have advanced up to 1 mile into the Kursk region and currently control 444 square miles of Russian territory.

Major General of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Eduard Moskalov was once the head of the Military Academy in Odesa and Donetsk.

Counteroffensive in the Kursk region: Ukrainians are pushing forward

Syrskyi assured that since the beginning of the day, our troops had advanced a distance of 0.3 to 1 mile in some directions, repelled three enemy counterattacks, and continued offensive operations. They have brought 444 square miles of territory and 82 localities under our control. The overall situation is under control.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine began the offensive operation in the Kursk region on Russian territory on August 6. Foreign armies have not occupied the territories of present-day Russia since World War II.
