Information surfaced in November alleging that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to run for another term in the presidential election, scheduled for March 2024.
Vladimir Putin, now 71 years old, has served as Russia's leader longer than any other since the era of Joseph Stalin. If it were not for recent constitutional amendments, he would have been required to step down from power for the next six years.
However, the constitutional amendment stipulates that for individuals who were in the presidential office at the time of its implementation, their term count resets irrespective of previous terms. Consequently, Putin will have the possibility to run in the next elections and potentially remain in office until 2036.
Ukrainian unveils Putin's deception to the World
Anton Heraszczenko, an advisor to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, recently shared a 2008 recording on social media. It features Vladimir Putin declaring that he would never run for a third term and condemning those addicted to power.
In 2023, Putin announced his intent to run for a fifth presidential term. He also critiqued Western democracies for their frequent leadership changes. Is this the same Putin? Anton Heraszczenko rhetorically asks.
Putin is determined to retain his role as Russia's president to accomplish several objectives. Expert Oleksandr Lytvynienko believes that the Kremlin views the war with Ukraine as an important, but not the only front in Russia's global conflict with the United States and the entire West.
According to Lytvynienko, the Kremlin has outlined four key objectives. These include securing internal stability within the Russian Federation, mobilizing the population and the economy, and boosting the production of weapons and military equipment.
