Ukrainian drones target Russian oil refinery in daring nighttime raid
Drones attacked an oil refinery in Ryazan, Russia, in what media reports suggest was an operation by Ukrainian military intelligence (GUR). A representative from the institution reportedly confirmed it.
The attack on the Ryazan oil refinery occurred overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday. Residents reported hearing sounds of at least two explosions around 9:00 PM EST, according to Channel24.ua.
Videos capturing the moment of the explosion at the facility have surfaced online.
In a morning statement, the Ministry of Defense in Moscow claimed that air defense systems had allegedly shot down six Ukrainian drones across four regions of the country.
Attack in Russia? Media reports GUR operation
In an interview with the Ukrainska Pravda portal, a GUR representative stated that Ukrainian military intelligence was behind the attack.
"A military target in Ryazan has been hit. There is significant damage," the site quotes its source as saying.
GUR typically does not publicly acknowledge special military intelligence operations. However, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense underscores that refineries fueling the Russian arms industry are considered legitimate targets by Ukrainian forces.
