Ukrainian drones obliterate a Russian T‑72B3 tank near Lyman
Ukrainian forces destroyed a Russian T-72B3 tank near the city of Lyman in the Donetsk region thanks to a precise drone strike, according to the Ukrainian portal Defense Express. Despite their efforts, the Russians could not hide one of their more valuable tanks in a building.
The destruction of the tank near Lyman was reported in detail. It was primarily hidden in a building and further reinforced with improvised armor. However, this was not an obstacle for the Ukrainians, who first located and successfully eliminated the target. Drone pilots from the SIGNUM unit of the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade carried out the operation.
Precise drone strike
Soldiers from the 81st Separate Air Assault Brigade provided intelligence on the tank's movements. After confirming the target's location, Ukrainian forces quickly took action. Two key targets were selected for the strike: the tank itself and a nearby ammunition depot.
Despite being reinforced with extra protection and improvised shields, the tank could not withstand the accuracy of the loitering munition. The strike was direct, with a shaped charge breaking through the armor and triggering a powerful explosion. Members of the SIGNUM group confirmed the destruction, emphasizing that the blast was heard for a long time and the vehicle was completely incapacitated.
The T-72B3 tank, which originated in the 1970s, has undergone numerous upgrades, the most notable being the T-72B3 version. This variant gained recognition thanks to its modern Sosna-U sight and improved reactive armor. The T-72B3 model has a 2A46M 125 mm cannon and PKT machine guns of 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm calibers. These modifications have significantly increased its effectiveness on the battlefield.
