Ukrainian drones ignite a fire at the Russian fuel depot
Overnight, Ukrainian drones attacked the Russian military fuel depot Annanefteprodukt in the Voronezh region. Russian authorities claim they shot down all the drones, while the Ukrainian General Staff asserts that one of the drones hit the target, sparking a fire at the base.
"Russian air defense activity was observed in the area of the facility. It was confirmed that at least one of the targeted tanks was hit, resulting in a fire," reported the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Friday. They also noted that the Security Service of Ukraine conducted the operation in collaboration with other units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The governor of the Voronezh region, Alexander Gusev, previously stated that following the nighttime drone attack, a fire erupted at the oil depot. Electronic warfare equipment in this area neutralized the Ukrainian drones, one of which fell onto the oil storage area, causing an empty tank to ignite, Gusev reported.
According to Ukrainian Pravda, there were 20 tanks filled with fuel and lubricants on the premises of the fuel base.
Regular attacks on Russian facilities
Since Russia invaded Ukraine, Russian regions have been regularly shelled and attacked by drones. The Russian Ministry of Defense reports almost daily the shooting down of missiles and drones over Russian territory.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky described the attacks on refineries as a response to the attacks by Russian forces on the Ukrainian energy sector.
