The Ukrainian Drone Systems Forces conducted an attack on the refinery in Ryazan and the oil depot in the Tula region. These facilities are vital for supplying fuel to the Russian army. According to the General Staff of Ukraine, the attack took place overnight from February 23 to 24, 2025, Eastern Time.

The refinery in Ryazan, located about 125 miles southeast of Moscow, has been previously targeted by Ukrainian attacks. Since the beginning of the year, UAVs have attacked at least seven Russian oil refineries, including those in Taneko in Tatarstan, Saratov, Volgograd, a plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and twice at the refinery in Ryazan. The Gazprom-owned Astrakhan plant, which produces fuel for the southern regions, was also targeted.

Attack on Russian refinery: How the Ukrainian army operates

This time at least five explosions were recorded, and a fire broke out in the main ELOU AT-6 oil refining unit. The Ukrainian army promises to continue targeting strategic sites that support Russian aggression.

The General Staff of Ukraine emphasized that combat operations will continue, with the main goal being to weaken the logistical capabilities of the Russian army.

Since last year, Ukrainian forces have become increasingly proficient in using drones to hit targets located thousands of miles beyond Russia's borders. This tactic aims to slow down the Russian advance, disrupt logistics, and force the Kremlin to limit fuel production and move weapon depots further east.
