Ukrainian drone strike halts major Russian microchip plant
The "Kremnij EL" plant in Bryansk, one of Russia's largest microelectronics producers, halted production after a Ukrainian drone attack. Energy facilities and warehouses were damaged, but fortunately, no one was harmed.
Ukrainian drones targeted the headquarters of the second largest Russian microelectronics producer, JSC Kremniy El Group plant in Bryansk. This company is under U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctions.
The Russian military uses the plant's microprocessors for various purposes, including Iskander ballistic missiles. The company is also part of the Russian federal program "Alternative," which focuses on developing new radars with active phased array systems for air defense and installation on aircraft and ships.
The plant halted production
The Bryansk "Kremnij EL" plant had to suspend operations after the drone attack. According to "Kommersant," six strikes were recorded overnight, damaging some production buildings and warehouses. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to the Ministry of Defense, 37 drones were shot down overnight over the Bryansk region, 18 of which were reactive. The region's governor, Alexander Bogomaz, reported that a total of 121 drones were destroyed over Russian regions. This is not the first time the "Kremnij EL" plant has been targeted.
In October 2024, a similar incident caused power outages and production disruptions.
The current attack again affected production chains, forcing the plant to halt operations temporarily. Despite this, the plant reports no casualties among employees.
