Ukraine's new cost-effective missile could shift Donbas tides
The Ukrainian armed forces are testing a modern missile named Trembita. This missile has a range of about 93 miles and carries a payload of 44 pounds. A significant advantage of this missile is its cost. Preliminary reports indicate that it costs $10,000.
The Ukrainian army is trying to repel Russian attacks and shift the balance of victory in their favor. To change the situation in Donbas, the Ukrainians need modern weaponry capable of striking enemy forces effectively.
Currently, Ukraine is testing a missile named Trembita. It's a short-range missile designed in 2023. Although its range is only 93 miles, and it has a payload of just 44 pounds, the biggest advantage is its production cost.
British "The Telegraph" reports that the cost of producing one Trembita is just $10,000. Why is the cost so low? The design uses a jet engine and a simple GPS-guided fuselage.
Ukrainian designers are also working on another version of the missile. This version is intended to reach Moscow. The production cost will likely be higher than $10,000 but it will still be lower than the price of modern American equipment. For comparison, "The Telegraph" reports that the American missile system MGM-140 ATACMS costs over $1 million.
Ukraine wants mass-produced weapons in response to voices from the USA
The authorities in Kyiv want to respond to dwindling aid from the West. Ukraine fears that Donald Trump will not supply the army with equipment, making it challenging to fight against the Russians. Kyiv aims to become independent from Western supplies, and massive missile production, along with numerous attacks on Russia, maybe the way to counter Putin's regime.
Although the project deviates significantly in capabilities from the world's best missiles, it has the advantage of potential mass production. This approach could significantly challenge Russia.
