Ukraine's missile strike decimates $100M russian radar asset

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported that Ukrainians destroyed a Russian Nebo-M radar using ATACMS missiles. This is a significant loss for Russia, as the cost of one such device is estimated at over $100 million, and the Russians were believed to have only ten active radars of this type remaining. Let's take a closer look at the Nebo-M and its capabilities.

Russians are facing another serious setback. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Putin's army has lost an extremely valuable Nebo-M radar. Additionally, Ukrainians believe that its destruction creates an "air corridor" for the effective use of Ukrainian Storm Shadow and SCALP-EG cruise missiles.

Russian Nebo-M radar - a valuable asset

The Nebo-M radar is an advanced radar system used by the Russian armed forces, playing a key role in Russian air defense. The device operates in stealth mode, scanning the horizon for aerial objects. Its technologically advanced system utilizes complex algorithms to detect, track, and intercept aerodynamic and ballistic targets.

Russia has only ten operational systems, each costing over $100 million. The destruction of this station, therefore, weakens the Russian army's ability to monitor airspace effectively. This is especially significant because this radar is a crucial element in the Russian air defense system, facilitating the detection, tracking, and identification of aircraft, drones, and guided missiles.

Thanks to active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology, Nebo-M is capable of detecting and tracking targets at long distances. This system is exceptionally difficult to neutralize due to its advanced features and technology. Available data indicates that the radar can operate in a 360-degree range, allowing for the simultaneous monitoring of airspace from multiple directions. This makes the Nebo-M one of Russia's most modern radar systems.
