Ukraine's fight for survival hinges on crucial US support
In an interview with NBC News, Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine has "little chance" of survival without the help of the United States. "Probably it will be very, very, very difficult," admitted the president of Ukraine.
"And of course, in all the difficult situations, you have a chance. But we will have low chance, low chance, to survive without support of the United States. I think it’s very important, critical," said Zelensky.
Zelensky warned that Vladimir Putin aims for negotiations not to end the war, but to gain a ceasefire that will lift some of the sanctions imposed on Russia and allow for a regrouping of forces. A fragment of the conversation with the President of Ukraine was published on Friday, and the full interview is set to air on Sunday.
Conversations with Trump
President Zelensky spoke with NBC News after a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump. On the same day, Trump also spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The US President later admitted that including Ukraine in NATO is not beneficial and that Ukraine has little chance of regaining all territories occupied by Russia.
Zelensky, commenting on the conversation, informed journalists that he will not accept any agreements regarding Ukraine that do not include his country in the negotiations. As reported by Sky News, he also stated that he does not consider Trump's earlier conversation with Putin as a symbol of priorities. The Ukrainian leader declared that the most important thing is that "everything does not go according to Putin's plan."
