Ukraine's defense in Kursk thwarts Russian advance

General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, emphasized that maintaining positions in the Kursk region is crucial to prevent Russian forces from entering the Sumy region.
"Here, in the Kursk operational zone, our soldiers are conducting a defensive operation to prevent the adversary from penetrating deep into Ukrainian territory," the general wrote on his Facebook profile.
The Russians lost 55,000 troops in the Kursk region
Within seven and a half months since the start of the Kursk operation, Ukrainian forces inflicted losses on the enemy amounting to over 55,000 troops.
General Syrskyi emphasized that over 22,000 are "irreversible losses." Additionally, more than 940 Russian soldiers were taken prisoner.
Syrskyi visited the soldiers fighting in the Kursk region
General Syrskyi revealed that he personally visited the units operating in the Kursk sector. He made key decisions there, including replenishing ammunition supplies, drones, and relocating reserves.
The Ukrainian forces unexpectedly entered the Kursk region on August 6, 2024, but since then, under pressure from Russian forces, they had to retreat and have already lost most of the territory they had occupied there.
