Zelensky shared on Telegram that Ukraine is preparing sanctions against Georgia because of its closer ties with Russia. He remarked that "it's simply disgraceful" what the Georgian government is doing to its own people.
"When Moscow praises this government in Georgia, it becomes clear for whom they are working in Tbilisi and why they are suppressing these protests," stated the Ukrainian president. "Certainly not for Georgia."
Zelensky noted that Ukraine is collaborating with European and other partners on specific legal actions.
Protests against the policies of the ruling Georgian Dream party have been ongoing in Tbilisi and other cities in Georgia since November 28. Protesters oppose the decision to suspend talks on joining the EU until 2028.
