"The Russian Ministry of Defense and Russian military bloggers report that HIMARS units fired by Ukraine targeted Russia on Saturday evening," "The Telegraph" states. This suggests that the Ukrainians commenced the shelling just one day after receiving U.S. authorization.
According to Russian sources, about 10 missiles launched from HIMARS were intercepted over the Belgorod region. Photos of rocket debris have been shared among the evidence.
The British newspaper emphasizes that Kyiv has not commented on these reports yet. The Unian agency suggests that Ukrainians in this situation are opting for "silence mode."
Green light from the USA
On May 31, the United States permitted Ukraine to use American weapons to attack targets on Russian territory. This decision was in response to Russian operations in the Kharkiv region.
The lifting of the ban comes with certain restrictions. Ukrainians can only attack targets near the border with the Kharkiv region. Out of reach are, for example, bombers stationed deep within Russia.
