The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced that a Russian military intelligence GRU agent has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. The agent was involved in locating weapons factories and air defense facilities in Zaporizhzhia to facilitate attacks in southeastern Ukraine.

Sentence for the agent

The agent was detained in January 2024 while preparing a series of missile and bomb attacks on Zaporizhzhia. Before the full-scale Russian invasion in early 2022, this city had more than 700,000 residents.

"On the orders of a supervisor from the GRU, the agent tried to locate local factories producing ammunition for the rocket and artillery weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Another task was to identify anti-aircraft missile systems and radar stations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region. The Russians [editor's note] needed this information to plan the route of their missiles and drones to bypass Ukrainian air defense," announced the SBU.

The Russian agent attempted to identify factories producing ammunition and air defense systems. This information was intended to assist in planning the routes of missiles and drones to evade Ukrainian defense systems.
