Ukraine pushes back on US rare earth proposal as talks continue
The draft agreement concerning rare earth minerals, sent by the United States in a new form, was not well received by Kyiv. Discussions have taken place, and Washington reportedly expressed an understanding of Ukraine's concerns.
According to Bloomberg, a video call was scheduled for Friday between Ukrainian representatives and the American side to discuss the new draft agreement on rare earth metals. Kyiv reportedly reacted critically to the draft's provisions, but the agency notes that Washington seemed receptive to Kyiv's concerns.
As suggested by the authors, this may indicate Washington's willingness to discuss modifications to the draft.
Bloomberg reports that Ukraine intends to urge the United States to revise the new economic agreement proposed by the Trump administration, specifically concerning the promise of increased American investments in the country.
The talks were expected to include, among others, legal experts.
Zelensky opposes the agreement in its proposed form
On Friday evening, Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelensky, addressed the agreement, stating clearly that he would not permit the signing of an agreement that could impede Ukraine's efforts to seek membership in the European Union.
The president highlighted that Ukraine's constitution firmly outlines its path toward joining the European Union, and the nation is actively working toward this objective. Zelensky noted that significant reforms and necessary measures are currently underway.
