Andrius Kubilius, the EU Defense Commissioner, expressed concerns about Ukraine's security in light of its absence from NATO structures. He emphasized that Ukraine's lack of membership in the North Atlantic Alliance could encourage Russia to plan more aggressive actions.

In an interview with the Polish Press Agency, Kubilius pointed out that Russia is not afraid of a NATO offensive originating from Ukraine but is concerned that the alliance could effectively defend Ukraine against a Russian attack.

They [the Russians] fear NATO will defend Ukraine against Russia's next aggression, the commissioner wrote on platform X.

US proposal

According to Reuters, the USA has proposed a plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which includes that Ukraine will forgo its aspirations for NATO membership while retaining the right to join the European Union. This move aims to ease regional tensions.

The US proposal has garnered mixed reactions. On one hand, it may serve as a way to de-escalate the conflict; on the other hand, renouncing NATO membership could weaken Ukraine's position in the face of potential threats from Russia.

Ukraine's status concerning NATO remains a crucial component in international relations. Decisions made in the near future could have long-term consequences for regional stability.
