Ukraine gas transit halt costs Slovakia €1.5 billion, says Fico
The storm surrounding Ukraine's halt of Russian gas transit to Slovakia continues. Prime Minister Robert Fico spoke about his December visit to Moscow on Wednesday. I dealt with a serious problem there—damages amounting to one and a half billion euros, which the ungrateful President of Ukraine caused Slovakia," the politician declared.
In the video released on Wednesday, Fico expressed his dissatisfaction with Ukraine's decision to stop the transit of gas from Russia. "Neither Slovakia nor the European Union are in a state of war and have no reason to tolerate Zelensky's antics," he stated.
According to Fico, Ukraine's decision results in financial losses for Slovakia reaching one and a half billion euros. Additionally, other European Union countries could lose up to 70 billion euros because of it.
The Slovak Prime Minister explained that it was precisely because of this situation that he went to Moscow in December. "I had to secure gas at least for domestic needs. I dealt with a serious problem—damages amounting to one and a half billion euros, which the ungrateful President of Ukraine caused Slovakia," Fico said.
Storm in Slovakia. Fico spoke up
On Thursday, the Slovak Prime Minister will meet in Brussels with Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson. As he stated, he "wants to wake her up from a deep sleep."
Fico also criticized the opposition for announcing an extraordinary session of parliament regarding foreign policy directions and the confirmation by parliament of Slovakia's European choice. The Prime Minister announced that he would advise the ruling coalition deputies not to participate.
