A short video recently revealed the equipment of the 21st Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine. This unit notably operates the Stridsvagn 122 tanks, also featured in the video. Let's dive into the unique features of these machines - they are highly regarded among both experts and soldiers.

The Stridsvagn 122 tanks, gifted to Ukraine by Sweden, were deployed earlier this year. A total of 10 units have been integrated into their military. These tanks are not built entirely from scratch. Instead, they are based on the German Leopard 2A5, but with several improvements initiated by Sweden. These modifications significantly enhanced the durability and overall combat capabilities of the tanks.

Interestingly, Ukrainians use these tanks alongside Barracuda IR camouflage nets. This strategy lowers the thermal and radar signatures of the tank, making detection by enemy systems more challenging. However, despite these preventative measures, there have been hits on the Stridsvagn 122 by Russians. Of the four recorded instances, only one has resulted in the total loss of the tank.

So, what makes the Stridsvagn 122 superior to the original German model? The Swedish variant employs multiple improvements, including a reinforced roof, hull siding, hardier fuel tanks, and systems that prevent the engine's air supply in case of detection of unwanted substances. Its advanced fire control system is more reminiscent of the newer Leopard 2A6 than the Leopard 2A5. The Swedish modifications also incorporated the Tank Command and Control System (TCCS).

The primary armament of the Stridsvagn 122 remains consistent with that of the original, which includes an L/44 smoothbore 120 mm cannon. The crew also operates two 7.62 mm machine guns and an 80.5 mm smoke grenade launcher. The tank flaunts a 1500 HP engine and the suspension equivalent to the Leopard 2A5. It can reach speeds of approximately 43.5 miles per hour and has a range of approximately 292 miles on paved roads and 93 miles on off-road terrain.
