Ukraine denies Russian capture of strategic hub Pokrovsk
The Ukrainian military group Chortytsia stated that the Russians have not captured Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, an important logistical hub for the Armed Forces of Ukraine that has been attacked by enemy forces for months.
The Ukrainian military group Chortytsia firmly denied reports that the Russians have occupied Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. This city plays a crucial role as a logistical hub for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and has been a target of attacks by opposing forces for months.
"Some media outlets and social networks are spreading information about the enemy's presence in Pokrovsk. These reports are not true," the group announced on Telegram.
Intense fighting
Chortytsia admitted that fierce battles are ongoing around the city, but Ukrainian forces are effectively defending against the superior Russian forces.
The DeepState project, which updates maps of the fighting sides’ positions daily, reported that the Russians have "advanced" in villages near Pokrovsk, such as Udachne and Dachne, in an attempt to encircle the city.
As a result of the Russian offensive in Pokrovsk, a critical coking coal mine for Ukraine's steel industry has been closed. The steel industry, which is the second most important source of income for Ukraine after agriculture, is also crucial for the defense sector.
