The Ukrainian Navy announced the sinking of the Russian minesweeper "Kovrovets," belonging to the Russian Black Sea Fleet, overnight from Saturday to Sunday. No details of the operation have been provided.

"Last night, the Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed the Project 266-M minesweeper 'Kovrovets,' which belonged to the Russian Black Sea Fleet. The Navy and its comrades-in-arms continue to bring us closer to victory," reads a statement from the Ukrainian Navy.

The "Kovrovets" was launched 50 years ago

The "Kovrovets" is a Russian naval minesweeper that was commissioned in 1974. It was intended for clearing navigable waters of mines using towed sweepers and for laying mines.

So far, no other sources confirm the Ukrainian Navy's success. In the past, not all of Kyiv's reports in this matter have been confirmed.
