Ukraine captures first North Korean troops in Kursk region
"Our soldiers have captured North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region," announced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday.
"This was not an easy task," he pointed out.
"Our soldiers have captured North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region. Two soldiers, though wounded, survived and were transported to Kyiv, where they are now communicating with the Security Service of Ukraine," wrote Volodymyr Zelensky on the platform X on Saturday.
The President of Ukraine indicated that capturing these soldiers was not simple. "This was not an easy task: Russian forces and other North Korean military personnel usually execute their wounded to erase any evidence of North Korea’s involvement in the war against Ukraine," he emphasized.
Zelensky also posted photos of the captured soldiers. The images show the conditions in which the prisoners are held.
"I have instructed the Security Service of Ukraine to grant journalists access to these prisoners. The world needs to know the truth about what is happening," he added.
Soldiers from North Korea in the Kursk region
These are the first captured soldiers from North Korea. Until now, only recordings showing their activities or failures in operations were available online.
According to available data, around 10,000 North Korean soldiers are said to be involved in the fighting in the Kursk region.
This week, photos also emerged confirming that heavy equipment from Pyongyang, in addition to troops, has reached the front. Images from the conflict zone showed the involvement of North Korean M-1989 Koksan howitzers.
