Ukraine captures Chinese fighters; Beijing's response awaited

The Ukrainian army has captured two Chinese citizens who were fighting alongside the Russian Federation in the Donetsk region. There are reports suggesting that more Chinese citizens may be present in Russian army units, as shared by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday.

Identification documents, bank cards, and personal data were found in their possession. We have information that there are much more than two such Chinese citizens in the occupier's units," stated Volodymyr Zelensky.

He also mentioned that he instructed Ukraine's foreign minister to "immediately contact Beijing and clarify how China intends to respond to this."

Zelensky wrote, that the involvement of China, as well as other countries, directly or indirectly, in this conflict in Europe sends a clear signal that Putin is determined to continue the war. He is seeking ways to prolong the fight, and this certainly demands a response from the United States, Europe, and everyone around the world who desires peace. The captured Chinese citizens are currently in the custody of the Security Service of Ukraine.

A few days ago, analysts from the ZDF agency suggested that Russia might be planning a rapid deployment of North Korean ground forces on Ukrainian territory. This follows the detection of North Korean M-1989 Koksan artillery in late March heading toward Crimea.

This would be the first time North Korean troops arrive in Ukraine. Until now, Pyongyang’s soldiers have only operated on Russian Federation territory.
